Virtual Map Of The City Of Venice

This a great map of Venice. I just moused down to Paradiso, my favourite spot to have a late afternoon Prosecco. It's near the Biennale and one of the few areas in Venice where it is possible to find some shade under trees. Above is my photo taken in the courtyard. Below is a photo from the interactive map taken from the boardwalk.

I can see this site eating up the rest of my weekend.

Space Hoppers in Venice

I love Venice! A cute little video by spacehoppers Shelley Jones and Marko Anstice.

Can anyone enlighten me?

I recently visited the Guggenheim Museum in Venice. Peggy Guggenheim's dogs are buried in the courtyard; so, for that matter, is she. I am puzzled by the fact that all the early ones died as pups. I've searched around for an answer and so far have found one blog post that speculates that Guggenheim fed them fois gras which precipitated their early demise.  How likely is this?

Venice yesterday

The first pomegranate tree I've ever seen.

Light on the campo. I'll bet these aluminum chairs are hot!

The gondola hospital

We saw this exhibit in a very grand setting.

The gondoliers have gone to lunch

Faithful old dog waiting for his master

We had the best meal of our trip (so far) at this restaurant.

Villas and fish today

Today we visited three of the villas near Mira on the Brenta River. Many of these architectural monuments are scattered about the Veneto, lots of them are now in ruins. We toured Villa Barchessa and Villa Widmann and visited the garden of Villa Farsetti. We were the only visitors at all three which is the best way to see these buildings. They are not the greatest examples of the genre but are close to Noale where we're staying. They have a haunted feel about them; I wouldn't choose to spend a night alone in any of them. We broke it up with a big feed of fish at Trattoria Nalin in Mira.

A few pics of Venice

I like the one of Mr. Nag at the Raging Pub. When we first walked by there were a few nonas there getting their rage on with double espressos.
Queen Nag is sitting on her throne at the Guggenheim.
Look at the tombstone for Peggy Guggenheim's dogs. Why did all her early pets die so young?

Beauty Is Difficult

"La Serenissima ('the most serene one'), as Venice is known, is anything but. The world steps into the exquisitely carved font of the city, guidebook in hand, fantasies packed along with toothbrush and sturdy shoes. Splash! Out spill the Venetians. Tourism isn't the only reason for the accelerating exodus, but one question hovers like a haze: Who will be the last Venetian left?" See the slideshow and read more about Vanishing Venice

Thanks Marilyn (the other one).
