PM Abuses Handicapped Parking

Today Prime Minister Stephen Harper visited the Welland Riding where I work for an opposition Member of Parliament. The room was so packed with Conservatives that I nearly broke out in a rash. I could go on at length about the partisan politics this government imposes on funding announcements (and after 18 years in the political biz I feel qualified to comment) but I won't. Instead I'll relay a comment from a constituent who called to complain that the PM's 3 car entourage pulled up to a local eating establishment, dumped the VIPs and then took 3 handicapped parking spaces outside the restaurant. Great way to set an example, Mr. Harper!

Iraq war 'diversion' from Afghanistan: Harper

Mr. Nag said I posted this a few years ago but I can't find it in my archives. Harper was clearly taking his marching orders from Bush and didn't even bother to change the script. Today Tyler Crooks, a Canadian soldier killed in Afghanistan, will be laid to rest in Port Colborne. How many more boys like Tyler would have been killed in Iraq had Stephen Harper been PM in 2003?

It is Barack Obama's favourite painting: this famous canvas by the visionary Victorian artist George Frederic Watts arguably set the President-Elect on his long path to the White House.
In 1990, Obama was captivated by a sermon delivered by the Rev Jeremiah Wright, his controversial former pastor. The focus of the sermon was Hope, Watts's melancholy painting of a hunched and blindfolded girl who sits atop a globe and tentatively plucks at a single string on her crude wooden lyre.
