A New Convert To Environmentalism?

Don't fall for it. It'll take more than a paint job to convince me that Harper is suddenly green (ok, maybe green with envy at Dion's credibility as an environmentalist, but that's as far as I'll go). Harper walked away from the Kyoto Protocol, along with only four other industrialized countries: the US, Australia, Lichtenstein and Monaco. He's cut funding for research and environmental programs and pooh poohed dissenters. His environmental plan is a joke, as was Rona Ambrose, the minister in charge of implementing it.
Now he's doing a complete turnaround. Has he seen the light through the hole in the ozone layer? No. He's seen the poll that shows that Canadians rate the environment as their number 1 concern, ahead of health care.
How long do you think it will take before Canada's rusty environmental record starts showing through the green?

Lamest Superheroes

I mostly agree with The Pop Culture Addict's assessment of the lamest superheroes. I always thought that Aqualad was very uncool and the crimes he fought mundane. I'm unfamiliar with some of the heroes who appeared after I graduated from comic books to sex, drugs and rock and roll but I'm willing to take his word that they are lame. However I must take issue with the inclusion of the Legion of Superpets in this category. I think they're cool, not lame. Especially Comet and Krypto. Seriously.

Detoxify For the New Year

Apparently these foot patches will leach all manner of nastiness from your body and deposit it in the patches in the form of a dark, hard, sticky fluid. I rather suspected that evil would look like that. Delightful!

The true test is just to try them. Before going to bed, simply apply the Verseo Detox Foot Patches to the soles of your feet using the enclosed adhesive tape. Then, wear socks over it and keep it on overnight. In the morning you will be see significant changes to the smell and color of the patch as it reflects the amount and degree of
toxins which were extracted from the body. (I hope that they are better scientists than they are grammarians)

CEOs' Greed Is Outrageous

By the time the average Canadian grudgingly drags his or her still-hungover body into work Tuesday, swaps holiday tales with the stiff in the next cubicle, and hunkers down to work, the country's highest-paid CEOs will have already earned the worker's annual salary.
Minimum-wage workers would have barely rolled out of bed on New Year's Day by the time the country's top earners pocketed the $15,931 that will likely take the low-paid workers all of 2007 to make.
A study released Tuesday by the Canadian Centre for Policy Alternatives says the
100 highest-paid private-sector executives will have earned an average
Canadian's salary of $38,010 by 9:46 a.m. Tuesday. More

Runaway growth of executive pay, pension schemes and severance payments is a disgrace. Egregious compensation is not linked to performance; huge rewards without results are common, even in our publicly owned companies. A top executive can rob the company blind and leave with a severance package that most of us can only imagine earning through a lifetime of hard work.

Beautiful Monasteries

Pictures of monasteries . I'm now toying with the idea of becoming a monk.

The aftermath of hard drinking and partying on New Year's Eve.
I woke up next to five bottles of Jägermeister and a pile of confetti on National Hangover Day.
