Enchanting London

We stayed on Southampton Row near Russell Square when we were in London last week. I saw a lot of people popping in and out and omnibuses but alas no crazy organs.

London is enchanting. I step out upon a tawny coloured magic carpet, it seems, and get carried into beauty without raising a finger. The nights are amazing, with all the white porticoes and broad silent avenues. And people pop in and out, lightly, divertingly like rabbits; and I look down Southampton Row, wet as a seal’s back or red and yellow with sunshine, and watch the omnibus going and coming, and hear the old crazy organs. One of these days I will write about London, and how it takes up the private life and carries it on, without any effort.

I'm a fan of oversized vintage appliances and the Partio is a humdinger with a portable stove, oven, rotisserie, and charcoal BBQ grill, all in one and it also belonged to former US President Eisenhower! How's that for appliance provenance?

The Extraordinary Catalogue of Peculiar Inventions

Members of fraternal lodges at the end of the nineteenth century or early twentieth  century were likely to receive an unusual catalogue published by the DeMoulin Brothers Company of Greenville, Illinois. The catalogues featured fraternal initiation  devices and regalia.

Elsie and Elmer

When I was a little girl in Ville St. Pierre there was a Borden dairy up the road in Montreal West. On nice evenings my sisters and I would walk up there with my mother. I always chose a sundae with chocolate ice cream with chocolate sauce. There was a billboard outside with three dimensional Elsie and Elmer heads. I loved those walks with a special treat at the end.
