Ani – Ghost City of 1001 Churches

A haunting collection of photos of Ani, once a thriving city of 200,000 on the border of Turkey and Armenia, now a ghost city.

The Global Heritage Fund, as recently as October of 2010 reported that Ani is "On the Verge" of irreparable loss and obliteration, citing inadequate management and looting as the main causes.

Does rock and roll cause riots?

No riots were caused by the playing of these rock and roll records. However Montreal does have a history of riots caused by hockey. Maybe they should ban that (ha ha). Hang in for a few seconds, there's a bit of a delay before the audio starts.

Will rock and roll music save or spoil the teens of Montreal? The Kinsmen's Rosemount Boys' Club recently introduced rock and roll dance sessions to its recreational program to boost membership. Boys' Club director Alfred Williamson answers dubious critics who fear that listening to this type of music inevitably leads to wild behaviour. With great sincerity, Williamson offers an earnest defense of the 'modern craze' of rock music, in this CBC Radio report.

Romanian Painted Monasteries

The impressive number of churches to be found in Bucovina, Romania, with their fine exterior and interior frescoes, have been preserved and handed down from mediaeval times, and because of their uniqueness and artistic value, were added to UNESCO’s World Cultural Heritage List in 1993.

I'm not planning a trip to Romania anytime soon but I enjoyed reading about these Monasteries.
