Street Seats

Bade Stageberg Cox took 50 chairs that were abandoned on the streets of New York, repaired them, threw on a coat of yellow paint and called the project Street Seats. The bottom of each chair is stamped and documented with the date and location it was recovered.

Urban Etiquette Project

Christopher Rouleau started the Toronto Etiquette Project, a set of cards politely reminding Toronto residents not to do rude things like play loud music on the bus or swear around kids.
Thanks to popular demand from other cities, he's relaunched it as the Urban Etiquette Project.

It's also available en francais.

Thanks Bruce!

Seed Bomb Bracelet and Biodegradable Dress for Earth Day

Brooklyn Industries' attractive seed bomb bracelet holds three “seed beads” on a length of twine. Scatter the seeds on an abandoned lot, barren sidewalk, or other concrete wasteland in need of a touch of green.

They are also launching a biodegradable seed dress made of organic cotton voile. Made without metal zippers or plastic buttons it leaves nothing behind when it is eventually discarded.

In Case Vase

This vase by Sara Ebert is ingenious: "Were an intruder to attack, the vase can be smashed and turned against the aggressor. The pattern creates optimal shards to aid in your protection."

While awaiting the attack you can stick some pretty flowers in the vase. You couldn't do that with a shiv.

Air Raid Siren Loudspeaker

Chase and Scout Creations have constructed this very interesting iPhone speaker out of a WWII air raid siren. You can plug the device of your choice into the powered speaker via a standard 1/8″ headphone jack. Volume and sound density are adjustable.

I like the way it looks but at $725 it's a little out of my price range.
