Elvis Costello and his dad sing "Georgia on My Mind"

Elvis Costello’s dad, Ross McManus, was a singer for many years in Britain's popular big band, the Joe Loss Orchestra. In 1985 father and son played a tribute to the bandleader.

  1. Marilyn, that is a rare find, a strange dream, like you might get when you've fallen asleep in a park, in the shade, and wake up after the hot sun moved to have been beating down on your head for ten minutes. Especially because, superimposed on the very end, on /my/ screen just now, a still ad appeared for a video about Linda Ronstadt or perhaps Helena Bonham Carter, old and gray but A.I. Photoshopped shiny and wrinkle-free, glaring fiercely at a point behind my right ear. Giant red text: "HE WAS DISGUSTING!" Who? Wha? Whuh?

Get up off the grass. Dry swallow. Look around for a water fountain. There used to be water fountains everywhere for just such a situation. If I'm getting in my car and driving to a store, I'm not going to pay two dollars for a sip of plastic water. I'm getting a Diet Pepsi or a Dr Pepper or a Cherry Coke or a Squirt, from the back of the rack in the cold case, where it's coldest or at least freshest, because where they don't load them in from the back they rotate them.

    1. Two things: Watching this full screen made me feel like I was inside an aquarium. Also I always thought Elvis Costello was a short guy but he towered over his dad in this video so I guess I’ve been labouring over a misconception all this time.
