A Refrigerator From 1963

They don’t make ‘em like they used to. I wish my modern refrigerator had some of these features, like the pullout shelves that allow you to get at food in the back without moving everything in front.

My old apartment had a fridge a bit older than this one that had slide-out shelves and a foot pedal to open and close it. It was pretty, too. No doubt used gobs of electricity. - lolarusa

But you don't have one like that now because it cut into their profits.
Whirlpool owns Jenn-Air, Maytag, Amana, Roper, and KitchenAid.
Electrolux owns Frigidaire, Tappan, Kelvinator and Gibson.
Haier owns GE, Hotpoint, Cafe, Profile, and Monogram
That decreases the competition, so make 'em cheap and increase profits.

    1. I have a brand new Frigidaire Professional now. I hope it’s better made than the Samsung I had - the plastic shelves on the doors broke after a very short time.

    2. It's got less to do with manufacturers wanting profit (they have no qualms about charging us more) and more that we, as consumers, want things cheaper. And that's going to be a bit of wasted space in the corner (due to the geometry of the shelves). Also, that's about a $5000 fridge in today's money.
Do you want your $5000 fridge with 18.5 useable sq. ft. of space or 23 sq. ft. of space?
