In 1803 a saucer-shaped boat known as the “Utsuro-bune” is said to have been discovered by a local fishing crew off the coast of Hitachi province, Japan. When they towed the hollow vessel ashore a striking red-haired woman emerged, wearing strange clothing and carrying a box.
