The last visible dog scene from The Mouse and His Child is based on the 1967 classic novel by Russell Hoban. The title comes from an "infinity picture" of a can of dog food.
It's a Bonzo dog food can that the Bonzo Dog Doo-Dah Band (or simply Bonzo Dog Band) named themselves after. It's hard to choose my favorite song of theirs, but the first few that come to mind are Tubas in the Moonlight, Rhinocratic Oaths, and Mister Apollo.
Summer of 1978 or 1979 I moved my girlfriend Julie's things to her new apartment in a single load inside and tied high on top of my 1971 Chevy Nova, queen bed and dresser all. After everything was set up we went to Grass Valley to see /The Mouse and His Son/. It's a children's movie, but it's hard to imagine a child of today sitting still for it. It's slow and dreamy and bleak all the lessons are puzzling. If it had caught on it might be a Christmas tradition, but it really didn't, alas.
I associate it in my mind with /Logan's Run/ because of Peter Ustinov. He's the post-apocalyptic roofless librarian in one and a homeless old hobo in the other.
When my sons were little I tried to find sweet movies that would divert their attention from He-Man and his ilk. I would probably have steered them toward this one if I'd known about it.
