"Fallen Astronaut" alongside the commemorative plaque. NASA |
There's a ceramic wafer on the moon that honours those who died in the Space Race. In 1971, the crew of Apollo 15 left the piece of aluminum, 3.3 inches long, on the lunar surface. Created by Belgian artist Paul Van Hoeydonck it bears the names of 14 men, Soviet and American, who died in the course of their respective nations’ space programs.
