Today's Google Doodle honours Turkish artist Princess Fahrelnissa Zeid who was born on this day in 1901 and was one of the first women to go to art school in Istanbul. Her work blended elements of Islamic and Byzantine art with abstraction and other influences from the West. Fahrelnissa Zeid is considered to be one of the greatest female artists of the 20th century. The kaleidoscopic doodle is inspired by her largest work “Towards a Sky” (1953) which sold for nearly one million pounds.
