The Miniature Artworks of Robert Coutelas II


Robert Coutelas was a French artist who, despite many opportunities, lived and died in poverty because he refused to make any artistic compromises. In 1967 he began his “Cartes” series of playing card-sized paintings using cardboard and wood that he found on the streets. The cards were covered in mystical, symbolic and medieval subject matter much like tarot cards.
