Spanish Theatre Group Sells Porn To Dodge Tax

An all-woman theatre group has started selling porn magazines to avoid a sales tax that is crippling Spanish theatres. When the group became aware that sales tax on porn is less than a fifth of that on plays it obtained 300 back issues of a discontinued erotic magazine and registered as a distributor of pornographic magazines. Tickets to their production of "The Prodigious Magician", a 17th-century drama by Pedro Calderon de la Barca are free with every €16 ($20) porn magazine they sell.

When criticized for selling porn the group's director responds: "What is immoral is not that women distribute porn magazines, but that the government offers subsidies to these publications and not to its cultural heritage."
