This turn-off from Banff, Alberta to the #1 highway has always been a crossing place for elk. When the highway was built they continued to cross but there were many animal fatalities. The solution? Parks Canada puts up fencing to keep them off the highway. They also build overpasses for the elks but these animals weren't willing to wait for a dedicated elk lane to appear. They are using an existing train bridge to access a meadow on the other side. I wonder what happens when a train comes along...
