American artist Joseph Cornell is best known for his boxed assemblages created from found objects. Observatory is an astronomy themed series of boxes that features constellations. This work was the inspiration for works by writers Anne Tyler, William Gibson and Robert Coover and singer Mary Chapin Carpenter, among others.
