Itadakimasu
The Japanese phrase
Itadakimasu
(いただきます) is spoken before eating a meal. Roughly translated into English it means “I humbly receive (this food)”.
“More than simply “let’s eat,” it reflects a deep cultural value —
gratitude for the food, the people who prepared it, and the lives that sustain us.”
