In 2004, a large earthquake in the Indian Ocean triggered the largest tsunami in recorded history. I will never forget watching this catastrophe unfold on TV that Boxing Day and thinking that the death counter at the bottom of the screen must have been broken because the numbers were rising so quickly. 275,000 people were killed in fourteen countries across two continents.
