Changing Parking Lots to Homes

"It's unfair to have cities where parking is free for cars and housing is expensive
for people."

Across Toronto surface parking lots cover more than 9% of land area, for a total of 56,943,600 square meters. From Parking Spaces to Living Spaces is a project of The School of Cities at the University of Toronto that shows how Toronto could repurpose underutilized surface parking lots into new housing. This shift could help address the Toronto housing crisis, while also generating significant property tax revenue for the city.
