Egypt's New Administrative Capital

The presidential palace stands at the end of the main axis

Egypt's New Administrative Capital, located 45 kilometres to the east of Cairo, is planned to house over six million people when it is complete and become the administrative capital of Egypt, containing the country's presidential palace, the largest mosque in Africa, parliament and the majority of central government departments.

The city's architecture has a monumental scale



Critics of this enormous undertaking say it will do little to meet the housing needs of Cairo’s poor and underprivileged residents. It's almost impossible to navigate by foot and, in the sweltering desert, it lacks shade.  Some say the New Administrative Capital will help the military and the government consolidate their power. It will be miles away from Tahrir Square and any other public arena where Egyptians can come together to voice their grievances with those ruling over them.
