The Christmas Truce was a series of unofficial ceasefires that took place along the Western Front of World War I during the Christmas season of 1914. On the evening of December 24th, the first day of the truce, Captain ‘Jack’ Armes wrote to his wife and described this incredible occurrence. Peter Capaldi reads that letter:
