  1. I wore a red bandana on all-day print and delivery runs for my paper in the early and middle 1990s. It hid my dirty hair from being up all night finishing the layout job at the end of a week of frantic activity, and it gave me license to be brash and confident among strangers, who wouldn't kick me out of their shop, because I was a 6-foot-two skinny, sweaty wild-eyed weirdo in a red bandana.
