Traffic lights still light up, but there are no pedestrians to cross the street...

In 1986, around 49,360 people lived in Pripyat, most of them worked at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant. After a fire at the plant large amounts of radiation were released into the atmosphere. The entire town of Pripyat (population 49,360), which lay only three kilometres from the plant was completely evacuated 36 hours after the accident.
