Inside the world's largest earthquake simulator

More than 6,400 people were killed and hundreds of thousands lost their houses in the Kobe earthquake that struck the western Japan port city of Kobe on January 17, 1995. Shortly after the earthquake the National Research Institute for Earth Science and Disaster Prevention began construction of the world’s largest 3-D Full-Scale Earthquake Testing Facility in the Miki Earthquake Memorial Park in Japan.
