Rishi Sunak’s self-described “pro-car” stance hurts people. This video is heartbreaking.
Led By Donkeys is a British political campaign group, established in December 2018 as an anti-Brexit group. I think they’re brilliant."We are not a nation of motorists, we are a nation of families."

Why were all these kids walking along a road?
ReplyDeleteNo sidewalks
"We were walking"... she was with him?
Sounds like she screwed up
When a car runs over a six year old, 20 or 30 doesn't make much difference.
I don't think a change in the speed limit is a substitute for driver and walker education.

I googled “are people more likely to be killed by a car going 30mph than 20mph” Almost every article says yes. One (Unherd) says it doesn’t but if you read the article it says most people driving 30mph slow down to avoid an accident and therefore are not actually going 30mph on impact. The Daily Express says there are more driver fatalities on roads with lower speed limits. But it’s not talking about pedestrians struck by vehicles. Not quite the same. I only searched the first page.
DeleteIt's hard to qualify. A car doing 20 instead of 30 might give the 6 year old and the driver a couple more seconds to avoid it, but a car running over a kid at 20 or 30 is still bad news.
ReplyDeleteAlso a driver on a road posted at 20 is probably really doing 30, and posted at 30 is really doing 40.
