But how did the Chacoans transport the wood 70 miles to the construction site without draft animals or wheels? In an attempt to solve this mystery, researchers Rodger Kram and James Wilson carried a ponderosa pine log weighing more than 130 pounds for 15 miles up and down a forest road in Boulder County, Colorado—and they did it using only their heads in a technique inspired by sherpas in Nepal.
