Karina Schapman wrote the Mouse Mansion children's book series about two mice, Sam and Julia. She has created a
miniature museum in Amsterdam which welcomes you to their world and brings the original settings of the books to life. There is a mouse harbour with large warehouses, canals, docks, bridges and boats. You can visit a library, a theatre, tiny businesses and a carnival with a mouse roller coaster.
When Karina was a child her mother did not have the money to buy toys. Once a month, on ‘garbage day’, they would pick up stuff from the street and build crazy things together. Sam and Julia's world grew out of these early efforts.
