Download this Archaeological Map of Ancient Rome created by Rodolfo Lanciani from 1893 to 1901. Archaeologist, professor of topography, and secretary of the Archaeological Commission, Lanciani was a pioneer in the systematic, modern study of the city of Rome. The map depicts the groundplan of every architectural feature in the ancient city, from large public monuments to small shops, rooms, and even staircases. The original document is almost as tall as a two-storey building. About one-quarter of the collection was digitized and made available to the public in 2017.
