Snow Fighters by Leslie McFarlane

A close-up of a snow-bound city in 1957, and the men, money and machinery it takes to dig it out. (I grew up in Montreal and the winters were vicious.)

  1. 40,000 tons of sand, 20,000 tons of salt, 2700 men, $4 million. It would be interesting to see the same film made today. A lot has changed in 65 years, less equipment, less men, and less smoking.

  2. I am particularly o,pressed with the team up of the snow blower and the fleet of dump trucks seen 5 minutes into this film. I have never seen this sort of coordination "down south" in NY State.
