Don't Rub Your Eyes!

This dynamic MRI provides evidence that some ocular conditions are caused by excessive eye rubbing.

  1. Interesting that this is about keratoconus a condition that my son has. One of his eyes is pretty much useless which caused me to chuckle when he insisted on going to 3D movies. There is no cure for this condition but the progress can be stopped. The progress of his condition was halted by corneal cross-linking which stiffens and reinforces the cornea. Sadly, the procedure hasn't been approved in the US so I sent him with his mother to Toronto. Between travel and the procedure I spent well over $10,000 but it seems to have worked.

  2. A number of years ago when I was still working for a Member of Provincial Parliament a constituent's daughter had been been diagnosed with keratoconus. The surgery was not covered by our provincial health plan and the girl also had Down's Syndrome and it was felt she was not a good candidate for the procedure even if her mum could afford it. I linked the family up with an advocate but never found out what the outcome was. I am glad to hear that your son was able to receive the help he needed.

  3. Against all common sense, this video gives me an almost irresistible urge to rub my eyes.
