The Hirox digital microscope gives us a detailed view of Vermeer's
Girl With A Pearl Earring, down to individual brushstrokes and pigment particles. The microscope scanned the whole surface from a motorized stand above the painting. This created a 20 billion pixel panorama image at 35x magnification. Then they took some close-ups at 140x, providing scans of these details in 3D.
Thanks Bruce!
