Raising Cane

What would the South be without a little sugar in everything? Not nearly as sweet. In her 6th Southern crop story for The Bitter Southerner, Shane Mitchell travels to sugar cane harvests in Louisiana and Georgia to peel back the layers of sugar farming in the South. It's a longish story but well worth the read. Rinne Allen's photographs are gorgeous.
