Arlo Guthrie Birth Announcement


Arlo Guthrie is  known for “Alice’s Restaurant Massacree” and “The Motorcycle Song,” as well as many social justice songs. He is the son of Woody Guthrie, America's great singer-songwriter. You might not know that Woody was also an illustrator and visual artist. Above is a handwritten letter that Woody sent to his friend Alan Lomax in 1947 to announce Arlo’s birth. It currently resides at the American Folklife Center in the Library of Congress.
