Arlo Guthrie is known for “Alice’s Restaurant Massacree” and “The Motorcycle Song,” as well as many social justice songs. He is the son of Woody Guthrie, America's great singer-songwriter. You might not know that Woody was also an illustrator and visual artist. Above is a handwritten letter that Woody sent to his friend Alan Lomax in 1947 to announce Arlo’s birth. It currently resides at the
American Folklife Center in the Library of Congress.
