Circumnavigating the World in a "Half Safe" Vehicle

In 1951 Aussie adventurer Ben Carlin and his American wife Elinore set off on a trip around the world in an amphibious modified Ford GPA which he named "Half Safe". It was a ten year journey covering over 17,000 kilometers (11,000 mi) by sea and 62,000 kilometers (39,000 mi).

Following Carlin's death in 1981, Half-Safe was acquired by Guildford Grammar, his old school in Perth Australia, where it remains on display.

Frequent contributor Bruce sent me a photo of the vehicle and it piqued my curiosity. This Wikipedia article provides a lot of information about the adventure.
