A Dollhouse With A Functional Elevator

I was intrigued when a friend posted a picture of this unusual dollhouse on Facebook and decided to find out more about it. The four-storey dwelling is housed in a repurposed glass-front display cabinet standing over six feet high. It was created in 1912 in Sweden by John Carlsson when he was just 18 as a gift for his sister Eva. It comes complete with detailed Victorian furniture, lights and decorative objects and tiny porcelain people. Attached to the outside is a working elevator made of metal and powered by an electric clock motor. The house is part of the permanent collection of antique toys at the Sovrintendenza Capitolina ai Beni Culturali in Rome and was included in a Bard Graduate Center Gallery exhibition of Swedish toys in 2015.
