Medieval Italian village is a home and stone masonry school
With 25,000 euros and 1000 hours of work, Maurizio Cesprini and his partner Paola Gardin rebuilt a ruined home in the medieval village of Ghesc, Italy. The remaining part of the village (five houses) is intended for private homes, two of which have already started the architectural recovery phase.“The Village Laboratory" hosts workshops for college students worldwide who learn historical stone construction techniques. The public half of the village includes a communal kitchen, pizza oven and concert spaces.
(I live in an old home and have a long-standing interest in preserving built heritage. I was fortunate enough to work at The School of Restoration Arts At Willowbank in its first year. The students there learn about Heritage Conservation through a mix of theory and hands-on skills.)
