In 1891 photographer Walter McClintock travelled west to investigate national forests for the government. A Blackfoot elder took the photographer under his wing and over the next twenty years, he dedicated his life to documenting the tribe. Over that period he took thousands of photographs of the Blackfoot and their homelands in northwestern Montana. His collection of photographs of decorated tipis is magnificent
