The Bank of Naples dates back to 1539 and contains one of the oldest bank archives in Europe. In its possession are precious documents from as far back as the1400s. It has registration of a payment to Caravaggio, payments for the excavations of Pompeii, for the jewels of the "Treasure of San Gennaro" the city's patron saint, documents on liquorice export from Calabria region to Holland, Rothschild family's banking presence in Naples, religious festivities and much more.
