Les Halles de Paris (c.1950)

Nicknamed “Le Ventre de Paris” (The Belly of Paris) by the writer Emile Zola, Les Halles de Paris was built by Haussmanian architect Victor Baltard. Sadly the bustling vast market in the heart of the city was demolished in 1971 and replaced by a concrete subterranean shopping mall.
