The Unit F carpet from Design Studio Baklazanas is inspired by the architecture of Narkomfin, the legendary House of the People's Commissariat of Finance in Moscow.
Designed for collective living in 1928 by Moisei Ginzburg and Ignaty Milinis, the building aimed to mould ideal socialist citizens through its architecture. It offered communal facilities such as kitchens, creches and laundry and tenants were encouraged into a more socialist and feminist way of life.
Shapes which channel the building’s iconic facades, ground-floor layout, and individual living quarters can all be found interwoven into the carpet’s threads.
