The Story behind Philippe Halsman's Dalí Atomicus
It took photographer Philippe Halsman 26 attempts and "jumpology" to capture this iconic image of Spanish surrealist Salvador Dalí in 1948. The artist appears suspended in the air amid three flying cats, a stream of water, and floating furniture.
