O Tannenbaum: When Chemical Element Christmas Trees Were All The Rage


The first aluminum Christmas trees were manufactured in 1958 by Modern Coatings, Inc. and later by the Aluminum Specialty Company in Manitowoc, Wisconsin and sold for $25. My family was slow to jump on that bandwagon but when my mother finally bought one and decorated it with blue ornaments I thought it was the most beautiful Christmas tree I'd ever seen.
