On October 6, 2018, Tokyo’s Tsukiji Fish Market held its final tuna auction and workers began preparing for a massive migration to the new Toyosu location 2.3 km (1.4 mi) away.
With roads closed, 2600 motorized carts and forklifts set off before the sun rose. Police closed off public roads and the carts and forklifts set off, traveling at an underwhelming speed of 15 km/hr, or just under 10 mph.
Many sushi shops were closed for a few days but, aside from that, the huge move went without a hitch.
Thanks Bruce!
