The first Academy Awards honored the best films of 1927 and 1928 and were handed out on May 16, 1929 at the Blossom Room of the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel. There were 270 people in attendance and guest tickets cost $5.

A fun post. But no matter how much I've become addicted to your wonderful site, I should point out that this isn't the first year of the awards-that would be 1927/1928.
ReplyDeleteThat's the year that the best picture was split between Wings (for "best production") and Sunrise (for most "artistic") film. Perhaps an editorial correction is in order?
