Japanese artist
Kawanishi Hide was born in the port city of Kobe, where he lived all his life. He depicted scenes of the city in a collection of woodblock prints between 1933 and 1936, and also produced a post-war series in the 1950s.
The municipal website hosting Kawanishi’s works matches each print with a photograph of the site, viewed from the same vantage point.
