There are about 500 Japanese-style gardens across the globe with dozens in dire need of help after years of neglect. To avoid national embarrassment Tokyo has targeted some 40 traditional gardens in need of rescue. A team of Japanese experts will be sent to the worst-affected sites, starting with a five-person team travelling to Romania and California this year.
