Tree of Ténéré

Image: Studio Drift

A solitary acacia tree grew in the sands of the southern Sahara desert and became an important gathering place for traders and travelers as they crossed the desert. The tree of Ténéré was the most isolated tree on Earth until it was destroyed almost 50 years ago by a drunk driver.
Studio Drift's interactive Tree of Ténéré installation at Burning Man 2017 also bloomed in the middle of the desert. With 175,000 LEDs hidden inside 25,000 leaves, it's the largest interactive canvas ever created. Each leaf houses seven LEDs, programmed to interact with the crowd.
