Could Robot Bees Covered in Gel And Horsehair Be The Next Step In Pollination?

Honeybees and wild bees are the chief pollinators of flowers and most of the fruit and vegetables we eat and their importance cannot be underestimated. But bee populations have been dwindling and the global pollination crisis is a critical issue for the natural environment and our lives. A team of Japanese researchers, headed by Eijiro Miyako, have been developing mini drones covered in horsehair and sticky gel to assist in world pollination where other insects leave off.
