My favourite installation at the Museum Of London is
The Ghetto by James McKinnon and Tom Hunter. It is a cardboard recreation of rowhouses in Ellingfort Road in Hackney that were occupied by long-term squatters facing eviction in the 1990s. Tom Hunter was a resident there and produced this piece for his degree show at London College of Printing. He remained in the street after the squatters won their battle and the buildings became a creative council-approved community.
The buildings are recreated in minute detail. Interiors are illuminated and people going about their day to day routine are visible within.
