Alex Gross Cabinet Card Paintings

Cabinet cards are a style of mounted photography widely used for photographic portraiture from the 1870s to the 1920s. Los Angeles-based painter Alex Gross buys them at flea markets and on e-Bay, paints over them and turns them into portraits of comic book characters, superheroes, and icons of pop culture.
